The Department of Education has extended the time to apply to be a Chairperson of the Board of the Education Authority (EA).

The closing date for receipt of applications is now 4.00pm BST on Thursday 10 October 2024.

    Background

The EA is a non-departmental body sponsored by the Department of Education. The EA is responsible for ensuring that efficient and effective pre-school, primary and secondary education and sufficient schools and educational services are delivered equitably across Northern Ireland, are available to meet the needs of children and young persons and for ensuring the provision of efficient and effective youth services.

The role of EA Chairperson demands the ability to make informed strategic decisions, considering opportunity, impact and risk and the ability to influence across a diverse stakeholder base to deliver positive outcomes and enhance children and young peoples’ experience of education provision and services in Northern Ireland. In addition, the EA Chairperson should be a champion and public-facing advocate for EA and education in the media, as we make the case for greater investment in our education system.

The Chairperson role requires a three days-a-week commitment, with annual remuneration between £50,000 and £60,000 (subject to negotiation within this range). Travel and subsistence expenses will also be reimbursed for costs incurred while carrying out EA duties. The annual leave allowance is 18 days.

No specific academic qualifications are required for the post. Your experience does not necessarily need to be associated directly with the education service but may be from other backgrounds including business or commercial life and/or voluntary service and involvement in the community.
