  • Monkstown and Newtownabbey Community High Schools amalgamated to form Abbey Community College with effect from 1 September 2015
  • Mallusk Primary School changed status from controlled to controlled integrated with effect from 1 September 2015 and is now known as Mallusk Controlled Integrated Primary School
  • Coleraine Academical Institution and Coleraine High School amalgamated to form Coleraine Grammar School with effect from 1 September 2015
  • Kilcoan and Mullaghdubh Primary Schools closed with effect from 31 August 2016 and formed Islandmagee Primary School with effect from 1 September 2016

  • Altayeskey Primary School, Magherafelt closed with effect from 31 August 2016

  • Glenravel Primary School and St Mary’s Primary School, Glenravel amalgamated to form  Mary Queen of Peace Primary School with effect from 1 September 2016

South Eastern region

  • Dunmurry High School closed with effect from 31 August 2012
  • Ballykeigle Primary School closed with effect from 31 August 2012
  • Redburn Primary School closed with effect from 31 August 2012
  • Down High School, Preparatory Department, closed with effect from 31 August 2015
  • St Luke's and St Mark's Primary Schools amalgmated to form Holy Evangelist Primary School with effect from 1 September 2015
  • Knockbreda and Newtownbreda High Schools amalgamated to form Breda Academy with effect from 1 September 2015
