Administration of Education

The Minister for Education is accountable to the Assembly for the activities and performance of the Department and its Arm's Length Bodies (ALBs).

The Department's Permanent Secretary is responsible to the Minister and to the Assembly for the propriety and regularity of the use of all resources voted in the budget allocation for educational and related purposes and for ensuring that value for money is achieved. The Permanent Secretary is also the primary Accounting Officer for monies allocated by the Department to its ALBs.

In support of the Permanent Secretary, the Department's Planning and Performance Management Directorate and primarily the Education Governance Team, is responsible for governance and accountability issues across the Department and its ALBs.
