Review of the Religious Education Core Syllabus
The Department is carrying out a review of the Religious Education (RE) Core Syllabus
The Review of the RE Core Syllabus is being led by Professor Noel Purdy OBE, Director of Research and Scholarship at Stranmillis University College, Belfast, and Mrs Joyce Logue, former Principal of Long Tower Primary School. They will be supported by an expert Drafting Group comprising teachers from primary and post primary schools across all sectors.
RE Core Syllabus Drafting Group
Applications are now open for local teachers and principals to join the RE Core Syllabus Drafting Group.
The Drafting Group will lead the development and drafting of a revised core syllabus (aligned to the principles outlined), contribute to stakeholder engagement and be responsible for presenting a draft syllabus to the Department.
Drafting will be an iterative process and include direct engagement with a Consultative Group, established with representatives of the four main churches. The review will also be informed by extensive stakeholder engagement and public consultation.
Call for Evidence
An online Call for Evidence on the Review of the RE Core Syllabus for Northern Ireland is open. Along with extensive stakeholder engagement, it will play an important role in shaping the work of the Drafting Group as it revises the RE Core Syllabus. Anyone with an interest in this area can share their views using the online survey.
