School Transport

The EA is responsible for facilitating attendance at school through the provision of home to school transport for eligible pupils. For most pupils, this is provided on either dedicated school transport service or on public transport services.

To ensure the overall safety of the school population and transport staff, pupils showing any symptoms of COVID, or who have tested positive for COVID, should not travel to school.

It is strongly recommended that all pupils regardless of age continue to wear a face covering on both public transport and school transport services where it is appropriate for them to do so and they are able to handle them as directed. They should not be used by some children and young people with special educational needs who may become distressed.

When travelling on, or waiting for, all transport services, pupils should seek to keep their distance from other passengers and transport staff where possible. Where that is not possible pupils should continue to take precautions to reduce the risk, such as maintaining good hand hygiene, wearing a face covering to protect others, avoiding physical contact, trying to face away from other people and keeping the time spent near others as short as possible.

Children, young people, drivers and transport escorts who have been in contact with someone that has developed symptoms whilst at school or on home to school transport do not need to go home to self-isolate, unless they themselves develop symptoms or test positive for COVID.

On many school transport services, pupils from more than one school will be on board. The mitigation measures outlined above should minimise risks to all on board.
