The Department of the Environment (DoE) introduced seatbelt regulations in Northern Ireland which came into force on 27 February 2007.

    Seatbelt regulations for school children

The Department of Education produced guidelines in the form of a circular (2007/07) to ensure that all Education Bodies which may be responsible for transporting children are aware of their statutory obligations under the new regulations.

The Department writes to schools periodically to remind their pupils to wear a seat belt on the journey to and from school.
