Summary Report of Responses to the Consultation on the Draft Special Educational Needs (SEN) Regulations

A 12 week public consultation on the draft special educational needs (SEN) regulations was launched on the Department of Education’s website on the 22 February 2016 and ran for 12 weeks until the 16 May 2016.

A total of 67 responses, 44 in hard copy and 23 on-line were received. However, two of the on-line responses were disregarded as they were anonymous and the option ‘not applicable’ was answered for each question.

For analysis purposes a total of 65 responses have been considered.

The Department wishes to take this opportunity to thank all those who responded to the consultation for taking the time to express their views.

Consultation description

As one of the building blocks in delivering a new and more responsive special educational needs framework, the Department of Education proposes to revoke and replace the Education (Special Educational Needs) Regulations (NI) 2005 which are the current Regulations.  The proposed new Special Educational Needs (SEN) Regulations, referred to here as the draft Regulations, are the subject of this consultation.
