Appointment of new member to the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA)

The Minister of Education has announced the appointment of a new member to the Board of the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA), to fill a further vacancy following the recent public appointments competition.
Speaking today, Education Minister, Peter Weir said “I am very pleased to appoint a new member to the Council. The wealth of knowledge and expertise Ms Corrigan will bring to the Council will no doubt prove invaluable.”
The appointment is as follows:
Ms Majella Corrigan is currently employed as Director of Planning and School Provision in the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools and prior to this was employed in a number of roles within CCEA for 12 years. Having begun her career as a post-primary teacher she also worked for four years in the Northern Ireland Assembly. She brings to the Council experience in governance, strategic decision making and making an impact with others including through her work on the Ministerial review of qualifications in 2014. Ms Corrigan currently holds one other public appointment, as a member of the Governing Body and Education Committee of Stranmillis University College which is non-remunerated, and is soon to commence as a member of Board of Governors of the South Eastern Regional College for which she will receive £250 for a governing body meeting and £150 for a committee meeting or event sanctioned by the Chairperson, plus travel and subsistence allowances. She has declared that she has not undertaken any political activity during the past five years.

- The NI Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) is an Executive NDPB sponsored by the Department of Education. CCEA’s role is to keep under review and provide advice on the three areas of the curriculum, examinations and assessment. The constitution of the CCEA is set out in Schedule 3 of the Education (Northern Ireland) Order 1998 and its membership comprises a Chairperson and 13 members.
- This competition was widely advertised including in the Public Appointments section of NI Direct. This competition was sought to fill vacancies on the Council.
- The newly appointed member has a term of appointment ending on 31 January 2025 (unless terminated before that time). The member posts are not remunerated, however members are eligible to claim travel and subsistence allowances necessarily incurred on Council business. The expected time commitment for members on the CCEA Council is 1-2 days per month.
