  • Chief Inspector of Education Training Inspectorate appointed

    Education Minister Peter Weir has welcomed the appointment of Mrs Faustina Graham to the post of Chief Inspector of the Education Training Inspectorate (ETI) in the Department of Education, following an open recruitment competition.

    Mrs Graham brings a wealth of experience to the post having previously held the position of Assistant Chief Inspector within ETI. She has also worked in a range of policy roles in the Department including most recently shaping and developing policy in relation to Curriculum, Qualifications & Standards.

    Welcoming the appointment the Minister said: “I welcome the appointment of Faustina Graham to the post of Chief Inspector of the Education and Training Inspectorate. Faustina has extensive experience of leading teams within various divisions of the Inspectorate including the primary and post primary school sectors and further education.

    “I have no doubt that her valuable experience gained in ETI in the past and more recently leading policy work in the Department, will be an asset in leading the important work of the Inspectorate to raise standards and tackle underachievement in our schools.

    “The Education and Training Inspectorate comprises a group of highly professional staff who play a critical role in supporting education and training institutions and in providing assurance about the quality of teaching and learning.

    “I wish Faustina well in her new post and look forward to continuing to work closely with the Inspectorate to provide the best education outcomes for all learners in Northern Ireland.”

    1. The Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) is a ‘unitary’ inspectorate and part of the Department of Education (DE), providing independent inspection services and policy advice for DE.
    2. The ETI also provides independent inspection services and policy advice for a number of other government departments including the Department for the Economy and the Department for Communities. In addition, inspection services are provided for the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, the Criminal Justice Inspectorate and the Home Office.
    3. Mrs Graham previously held the position of Assistant Chief Inspector in the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI).  She led the ‘Schools’ division within ETI, covering all aspects of the inspection process in the primary and post primary school sector. She has led teams in ETI as Managing Inspector for Further Education, and also for Policy and Planning.  In addition, she was Principal Inspector of English and a specialist inspector for Drama across all phases of education.
    4. Mrs Graham also has extensive experience in leading policy development in DE including in Shared Education, Teacher professional learning and leadership development. Integrated education, Irish Medium Education and as indicated above in Curriculum, Qualifications and School Improvement and Standards.
