Minister Weir views £15.5million work at Coláiste Feirste, Belfast

Education Minister, Peter Weir, has visited Coláiste Feirste to view progress of work on the new £15.5million extension and meet with staff and pupils.

The capital works project at Coláiste Feirste will provide new enhanced sports facilities and improved teaching facilities at the school. The project is one of 18 major capital projects announced in 2012.

Speaking following the visit, the Minister said:

“I welcome the opportunity to be here today to see the positive impact that investment has on our schools estate. The new facilities will provide an enhanced educational environment for the pupils and the staff at the school for many years to come. In addition to the improved provision for the school, such investment also provides a boost to the local construction industry.”

During the visit, the Minister met with staff and pupils. He said:

“Meeting pupils and school staff is an enjoyable part of my new role as Education Minister and I am looking forward to future visits to schools across Northern Ireland.”

1.  Woodvale Construction has been awarded the contract.

2.  Building work commenced on site on 8 February 2016 and is due for completion early 2018.

  • Changing rooms;
  • Fitness Gym;
  • Synthetic Training Area;
  • Full size 3G Gaelic Pitch; and
  • Five courts
