Over £1million investment for schools in Fermanagh and South Tyrone

Several schools in Fermanagh and South Tyrone are set to benefit from £1,022,619 investment under the Department of Education’s minor works scheme.
Speaking about the investment, Education Minister Peter Weir said:
“Capital funding of over £1million has been made available to seven schools in the Fermanagh and South Tyrone area since June 2016.
“St Patrick’s Primary School, Aughadarragh benefitted from £302,500 for provision of pre-fabricated accommodation (triple unit to provide 3 classrooms and an office). Funding of £11,000 was approved for the conversion of ICT room to general classroom at Moat Primary School, Lisnaskea. £3,500 was approved for works to refurbish a resource area at Maguiresbridge Primary School. Enniskillen Integrated Primary School will benefit from approved funding of £112,750 for additional modular classroom. £4,500 towards access control and bin compound has been made available to Tattygar Primary School. Enniskillen Royal Grammar School has secured £580,869 funding for a new modular toilet & changing facilities, refurbishment of existing facilities including additional lockers and conversion of music classroom to general classroom. St Paul’s Primary School, Irvinestown has benefitted from funding of £7,500 for security fence and ramps.
“It is estimated that over £51million will have been invested in the minor works programme in the 2016/17 financial year. This investment will enable improvements to be carried out across the schools estate, positively impacting on pupils, teachers and school staff.”
Minor works are projects less than £500,000 and range from minor improvements to more significant projects and extensions.
In conclusion the Minister said:
“I am confident that the substantial investment in minor works projects will help in the drive to improve educational standards. The completion of all of these works will ultimately provide better facilities for our children and young people to learn in and an improved working environment for teachers and other school staff. This ongoing significant investment also provides a boost to our local construction industry, helping to sustain jobs.”
