    Date published: 16 June 2016

Education Minister, Peter Weir, has officially opened a new £3million school for Eglinton Primary, Londonderry.

The new build was one of 18 projects given the green light to proceed to planning in 2012.

    Speaking today, the Minister said:

“I am delighted to visit Eglinton Primary School today to officially open the new school building. The £3million investment has provided a new eight class school with state of the art facilities, incorporating environmental technology such as ground sourced heat pumps and photovoltaic panels on the roof.

“A new school building brings very tangible changes to the daily life of pupils and teachers and it is very rewarding to visit schools to see the benefits firsthand. This investment will have a positive impact on the young people of the Eglinton area for many generations to come.”

Concluding the Minister thanked the Principal, Lorna Blair and the Board of Governors for the invitation. He said:

“Many people have contributed to this project and I commend them for their efforts. The new school building will provide an enhanced educational environment for many years to come and I also welcome the boost such investment has to the local construction industry.”

    Principal Lorna Blair said:

“This is a great day of celebration for the school community and I am delighted that the Minister has visited our school today. We are privileged to have a new facility with the latest educational resources and are very grateful to all those involved in the delivery of our new school building.”
