In autumn 2021, the Department of Education commissioned the Department of Finance (DoF) Innovation Lab to deliver a Strategic Insight Programme (SIP) to inform the development of the new Executive Childcare Strategy.

The SIP commenced with a series of Engagement Labs, which took place between October and November 2021, and sought the views of parents, childcare providers and MLAs on the key requirements for an Executive Childcare Strategy. Outputs from these sessions informed the final Strategic Insight Lab (SIL).
