Guidance on Temporary Flexibility for nursery schools and primary schools with nursery units.

    Temporary Flexibility - 2026/27

Temporary Flexibility (TF) permits an increase in class size, up to a maximum of 30, for nursery schools and nursery units in certain circumstances. Requests can be made by schools' Principals and Boards of Governors to temporarily increase their class size. All requests will be considered by the Education Authority Pre-School Education Group (EA PEG) in the first instance, and their advice will inform the Department's decision to approve or not approve the request. Requests must be submitted using the appropriate form and sent to the EA PEG.
