Call for Evidence on Review of Behaviour Policy and Practice in Schools
The Department of Education has launched a Call for Evidence as part of its Review of Behaviour Policy and Practice in Schools across Northern Ireland.
The review is being led by independent behaviour expert Tom Bennett OBE and aims to develop a clear, evidence-informed understanding of the behavioural challenges currently facing schools and to identify effective approaches and interventions that support positive behaviour, wellbeing and learning.
An online survey and written submissions will be used to gather views, experiences, data and research from a wide range of stakeholders. Responses will help ensure that the review reflects the realities of school communities and informs future recommendations for behaviour policy and practice.
The Call for Evidence seeks information on:
- The nature and scale of behaviour issues in educational settings;
- The impact of behaviour on teaching, learning, wellbeing and staff workload;
- The underlying causes and influences contributing to behaviour challenges;
- Current approaches, interventions and strategies that support positive behaviour;
- Challenges, gaps and barriers within current systems and provision; and
- Potential solutions and priorities for future policy development.
Responses are invited from anyone with an interest in behaviour and culture in schools, including education professionals, children and young people, parents and carers, representative organisations, and researchers.
Respondents are encouraged to provide evidence, experiences, data, research and examples of effective practice to inform the review.
The Call for Evidence will run from 15 September 2026 until 6 October 2026. Late submissions may not be considered.
