Outcome of Consultation: School Uniform Policy
The consultation on School Uniform Policy ran from 20 June 2024 to 27 September 2024 and sought views on making it a legal requirement for schools to follow the Departmental guidance on school uniforms.
The Minister of Education plans to introduce statutory guidance so that all school governing bodies will be required to review their school uniform policy and ensure costs are manageable for parents/carers.
The Department received just under 7,500 responses to the consultation in total. 3,444 responses were received via the online survey, 4,008 responses were received from Children and Young People via the Education Authority (EA) Youth Services and 19 free standing responses were received from other stakeholder organisations.
