    The law requires parents to ensure their children receive efficient full time education. This should be suitable to age, ability and aptitude and to any special educational needs he/she may have.

    Home education

    Article 45 (1) of the Education and Libraries (NI) Order 1986 requires that

    • the parent of every child of compulsory school age should ensure their child receives efficient full-time education
    • this should be suitable to age, ability and aptitude and to any special educational needs he/she may have
    • this should be by regular attendance at school or otherwise, and includes elective home education
