The Teacher Education Partnership Handbook

This provides an overview of the key stages of professional learning for student and newly qualified teachers, beginning with Initial Teacher Education (where students undertake school experience) and upon entering the workforce, continuing with Induction and Early Professional Development.

* It should be noted that this Handbook is currently under review, and it is expected that an updated version of the Handbook will be published during the 2023/24 academic year. *

The Handbook

The Teacher Education Partnership Handbook (August 2010 Edition) draws together in one place guidance for student teachers, early career teachers, teacher-tutors and others with a role in the three main stages of early teacher education.

To complement the Handbook, the Education Authority has provided information, reports and materials on Induction and Early Professional Development (as well as information for Teacher Tutors) here.

Career entry profile

Early career teachers are required to complete a Career Entry Profile (CEP) to help prepare for their induction period.  The CEP does this by:

  • helping the early career teacher to focus / reflect on the achievements and goals in the early stages of their teaching career;
  • helping the early career teacher to engage in collaborative discussions when planning how to meet their professional learning needs; and
  • providing a link between their initial teacher education and the school(s) where they undertake induction.
