Applications sought for a Chairperson and Members for the Board of the Council for the Curriculum Examinations & Assessment (CCEA)

The Department of Education has launched a public appointments competition to appoint a Chairperson and at least five Members to the Board of the Council for the Curriculum Examinations & Assessment (CCEA).

CCEA is a Department of Education sponsored non-departmental public body, and is responsible for keeping under review all aspects of the curriculum, examinations and assessment for schools including developing, conducting and moderating qualifications and assessments.

The Chairperson role involves ensuring that the CCEA’s policies and actions support the NI Executive’s Programme for Government targets and the strategic policies of the Minister of Education, and that the CCEA’s affairs are conducted with regularity and probity and deliver value for money.

The member’s role is to contribute to the development of the CCEA’s strategy; ensuring that it is consistent with the Minister’s priorities and DE aims and objectives; to challenge and work for consensus in the decision making processes of the Council; and contribute to the work associated with the discharge of CCEA’s statutory functions.

Education Minister, Peter Weir said: “CCEA has a central role to play in delivering against the NI Executive’s priorities for education: advising on the curricular provision in schools; monitoring through statutory assessment the standards and outcomes achieved by children and young people; and as Northern Ireland’s leading awarding body offering a diverse range of qualifications.

“I will be appointing a new Chairperson and five new members to the Council. I would like to extend my gratitude to the outgoing Chairperson and members for their dedication and for their significant contributions to the work of the Council for the last eight years. 

“The members of the Board have an important role in contributing to the development of the Council’s strategy, challenging and working for consensus in the decision making processes of the Council, and contributing to the work associated with the discharge of the Council’s statutory functions. 

“The Council’s Chairperson has a pivotal role in ensuring the Council's procedures and actions support my Department's wider strategic priorities, and that the Council's affairs are managed and conducted effectively. The successful appointee should be highly experienced in holding executive teams to account for delivery of results, and be able to manage financial resources, communicate effectively and maintain co-operative working relationships across the Education sector.”
