The first sod has been cut on a brand new Gaelscoil in Killyclogher, Omagh.
Construction is expected to be complete by March 2020 and will deliver a seven classroom primary school with single nursery unit.
Gaelscoil na gCrann has 182 pupils with 26 children in the existing nursery unit. It currently operates out of mobile classrooms.
Derek Baker, Permanent Secretary with the Department of Education said:
“This is an important day for Gaelscoil na gCrann as it celebrates the start of construction work on a brand new school.
“This represents a £3.8million investment by the Department and I have no doubt that it will create many positive outcomes for the pupils and teachers and indeed the wider school community.
“I want to acknowledge the patience and determination shown by everyone involved in helping to reach this stage. Investment in our schools infrastructure is vital if we are to continue to provide a high quality education for our children and young people.
“I wish the pupils, staff and school management every success as they embark on this new chapter.”
Work on the new school is being led by the Integrated Consultant Team, Edmond Shipway Ltd and construction is being carried out by Woodvale Construction.
