In 2002, the Task Group on Autism, set up jointly by the Departments of Education, North and South, reported the pressing need for teachers to have increased support to assist them in working with children and young people on the autistic spectrum.
Regional policy framework for schools on the use of reasonable force
Guidance for teachers and classroom assistants dealing with children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
This guidance is designed to help parents to understand:
- what special educational needs are
- what schools, the EA and others can do to help
- what your rights are
- how you can play a full part in your child's education
These guidelines are intended to assist schools in their preventative role and, in the event of a suicide occurring, in the effective management of the issue as it affects the school community.
