Independent Assessment Panel launches Teacher Survey and Call for Evidence

The Independent Review of Assessment Panel has launched a Teacher Survey and Call for Evidence to help shape future assessment policy and practice in Northern Ireland.
Launching the information gathering exercise, Independent Assessment Panel Chairperson, Professor Tim Oates said:
“This is a further opportunity to hear important views from across the education sector. The Teacher Survey invites classroom practitioners from every sector and phase to share their first-hand experiences of current assessment approaches.
“In parallel, the Call for Evidence welcomes contributions from all educational stakeholders who play a role in improving the educational experiences and outcomes for all young people. I encourage all schools, educators and stakeholders to take part and inform the future of assessment in Northern Ireland.”
The Teacher Survey will remain open until 16 October and Call for Evidence until 30 October 2025. The final report is expected in early 2026.
Welcoming the launch, Education Minister Paul Givan said:
“The feedback gathered from this engagement will be instrumental in ensuring that assessment in Northern Ireland is fair, effective and fit for the future.
“The Independent panel wants to hear from those most directly involved in education, teachers in classrooms, alongside the wider voices that shape our system. The feedback gathered will play a central role in shaping the Panel’s recommendations.
“This is an opportunity to build an assessment system that truly supports learning, promotes equity, drives excellence and ensures every learner has the chance to succeed.”
