    Date published: 1 September 2015

Education Minister John O’Dowd has officially opened St Ronan’s College in Lurgan.

The Co-educational 11-18 voluntary grammar school is an amalgamation of St Mary’s High School, St Paul’s Junior High School and St Michael’s Grammar School Lurgan, following the approval of a development proposal in February 2014.

Speaking at the official opening where the Minister presented medals to Year 8 students, John O’Dowd said:

“This is an historic day for the school and wider community and I am delighted to be here to celebrate with you.

Today not only marks the beginning of a new academic year, but also the beginning of a new future for education in the Lurgan area. I have no doubt that pupils and staff here will strive to pursue excellence in education and create an educational legacy to be proud of.

All that remains is for me to congratulate pupils and staff for the journey made so far, to bring three schools together, so seamlessly and to create not only a new uniform and badge but also a new ethos. I have no doubt that St Ronan’s will grow from strength to strength.”

    1. The Department of Education’s ‘Education Works’ campaign promotes the value of education. This year’s campaign aims to ensure that parents have information on schooling and that they are aware of the steps they can take to ‘Get Involved’ and support their teenager in achieving good outcomes at school. Watch out for the ads on television, radio and outdoor locations. The campaign highlights the vital role families can play in helping children do well at school and improve their life chances.
