    Leadership Development Programme 2026/27

On 15 September 2026, the Department of Education, in partnership with the Education Authority, announced the leadership development programme for 2026/27.

In line with the priorities in TransformED and the new Teacher Professional Learning Strategy, ‘Leading Together for Excellence’, this comprises support for new and experienced Leaders and Principals.

A dedicated programme of support for Senior Leaders and a replacement for the Professional Qualification for Headship will be available during the 2027/28 academic year.

Together, these programmes form a coherent leadership development pathway within the Teacher Professional Learning Continuum, supporting leaders at every stage of their career. This investment reflects the central role that effective school leadership plays in improving teaching, learning and overall educational quality for all children and young people.

Further information on the Leadership Development Programme for 2026/27 is available in the programme leaflet.
