Ill-health Retirement Guide

Ill-health Retirement benefits may be paid if you have to retire before your Normal Pension Age (NPA) because you are permanently incapable of teaching due to illness or injury. Certain criteria have to be satisfied before a person becomes entitled to benefits.

These guides provide scheme members and employers with information that is useful to know when a scheme member is considering applying for Ill-health Retirement with the NI Teachers’ Pension Scheme.

The guides also covers some issues to consider before completing an application. In all cases, we recommend that you seek independent financial advice.
