  • NI Teachers’ Pension Scheme Member Contribution Yield Consultation

    • Pension Scheme

The Department of Education (the Department) recently held a consultation on proposed amendments to the NITPS regulations.

This consultation presented options to adjust the scheme member contribution tier rates to ensure the NITPS remains appropriately funded and that members continue to collectively contribute 9.6% of their pay towards scheme benefits.

The Department has now published an outcome of consultation document setting out the way forward in implementing the adjustment to contribution tier rates.  The document can be viewed at:

Accordingly, on 01 April 2025 contribution rates will change as follows:

    • The first band (7.4%) will remain unchanged.
      • The remaining bands will increase by x1.031.

The Department has published Circular 2025/03 ‘CHANGES FROM 01 APRIL 2025 TO SALARY BANDS AND CONTRIBUTION RATES FOR MEMBERS OF THE NI TEACHERS’ PENSION SCHEME (NITPS)’ which sets out the changes to contribution rates and includes changes to salary bands resulting from a change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).  The Circular can be viewed at:
